About Veronica

I'm a native Spanish speaker with native-like fluency in English. I grew up speaking both languages and have a PhD in Spanish and Portuguese studies. With over 10 years of experience teaching, researching, and writing in English, I have the skills and expertise to teach English learners with first person knowledge of the process. I'm committed to teaching my students with patience and care, and helping them achieve their communication goals at the pace they desire.
Soy hablante nativa de español con proficiencia nativa en inglés ya que crecí hablando ambos idiomas. Además, tengo un doctorado en estudios culturales hispanos y lusófonos. Con sobre una década de experiencia enseñando, investigando y escribiendo en inglés, tengo las destrezas y habilidades necesarias para enseñarle inglés a hablantes de segunda lengua. Me comprometo en enseñarle a mis estudiantes con paciencia y cariño, asegurándome de que logren alcanzar sus metas comunicativas al paso que deseen.

About the lesson

As a native Spanish speaker who has learned English, French, Portuguese, and Italian, and who teaches in a languages and cultures University department, I have the skills and experience necessary to teach English as a second language through innovative methods based on first-hand experience and language pedagogy research. I approach language learning through a holistic and communicative lens, where learning unfolds naturally as the student is exposed to the language and real-life implementations. I have experience teaching and tutoring for all proficiency levels and work with my students to come up with a plan that will help them use the language naturally and confidently.

Details

Travel fee depends on the area. I work in Harrisonburg and live in Schuyler, so I can provide lessons across the Shenandoah Valley area as well as in Staunton, Wanyesboro, Stuart's Draft, Charlottesville, Albemarle County, and Scottsville. I charge 5$ travel fee for travel of 30 minutes to you, and the rate increases accordingly.
Fall 2025: I'm in Harrisonburg Tuesdays and Thursdays
