About Adam

Hello, my name is Adam Garrie and I am 33 years old. I trained initially as a classical musician - specifically a percussionist as a little boy before going on to study and teach history and politics at Kings College, London.

I am hugely passionate about all the subjects I specialise in, including but not limited to: history, politics, economics, current affairs, journalism and music. I have vast experience in all of the above subjects - from running my own think tank to working as a freelance geopolitical commentator, writer and consultant for various news outlets and private individuals. I have a thorough knowledge of music theory, music history, performance history, in addition to percussion itself, and have also produced a music album.

Currently, I am working on finalising my PhD on Benjamin Disraeli's impact on contemporary British politics . My thesis is completed, should you wish to read it.

Teaching is something I have always wanted to do and have enjoyed doing. I believe that I have a gift for explaining complex concepts in straightforward, concise language. I am also able to offer original insights to my students. I enjoy the process and as I am eternally curious, I am also keen to learn from anyone, especially young curious minds whose zest for knowledge delights me.

I believe in freedom of thought, expression and speech and in open respectful discourse, irrespective of one’s views on current affairs. For society to thrive, it is essential that the young are taught to think for themselves and believe in their ability and power to contribute meaningfully.

Each student is unique in his/her needs, desires and aspirations. Because of this, I aim to help every student to achieve a desired goal, whether this be preparation for university entrance, revising for exams, or mastering a wide variety of subjects. It is especially important to make learning an exciting, engaging and inspiring process for every student.  Studies have shown* that  student's happiness has a strong coloration with better academic performance. Because I believe that subjects that I teach are genuinely fascinating, I strive to inspire students to embrace the subject holistically. This aids long term memory retention and helps to deliver the best possible marks on exams.
