About David
I have worked as an Adjunct Instructor in the Department of Theatre and Film at Bowling Green State University for the past two years and also taught several courses while working toward my Ph.D. in Theatre from BGSU. Courses that I have taught include Acting Principles, Theatre History, Script Analysis, The Theatre Experience, Cultural Diversity Through Performance, and Performance in Life & On Stage (both in person and in an online, asynchronous format). This work demonstrates my understanding of a variety of disciplines. My extensive experience with theatre was especially useful when teaching The Theatre Experience, in which I taught both history and various production components to primarily non-majors.
In my classes, I challenge students both intellectually and creatively and encourage them to see theatre as a vital part of the world rather than an abstract artistic entity. I also emphasize the importance of collaboration to help students understand that theatre is a medium based on people working together and that every part is important to the creation of a whole.
I am an instructor who is happy to make extra time to work with students when needed. In all my classes, I schedule midterm meetings with my students. Midterm meetings are individual conferences in which I touch base with students about their progress in the course and give them an opportunity to express any concerns that they may have about the course. Students report that they appreciate my taking the time to meet with them outside of class.
I have strong communication skills, and I approach my work collaboratively. Students have told me that they enjoy my classes because the classes are interactive and give students a chance to voice their perspectives. At the same time, I encourage students to think critically and to challenge themselves both in performance and in written work.

I approach literature with close reading of the text. We will look at writing and discuss how the writer uses language to convey meaning. If you need feedback on something you have written, I can help you construct your work so that you are clearly conveying what you want to say.
