About Michele

Hello/ Ciao/ Salvete/ Χαίρετε!

My name is Michele, and I come from Florence (Italy).
I have been teaching Latin, Classical Greek and Italian language and literature since 2005. I am genuinely passionate about languages both modern and ancient. So much so, in fact, that I am currently studying Modern Greek on my own! During my time at Uni, I have attained a number of degrees and certifications. These include:

- Teaching Qualification for Secondary Schools in UK (PGCE, 2018);
- PhD in Romance Languages (Johns Hopkins University, 2016);
- MA in Classics (Johns Hopkins University, 2016);
- Laurea Specialistica in Classics (Università degli Studi di Firenze, 2010);
- Laurea Triennale in Classics (Università degli Studi di Firenze, 2008).

In addition to Classics and Italian studies, I have always nourished a deep passion for Classical Music. I have been playing violin since 1991, and have attained several certificates, such as Solfège, Complementary Piano, Harmony and Counterpoint, History of Music, Chamber Music and Orchestra.

I am a friendly and easy-going guy with a... boundless enthusiasm for learning teaching. I very much look forward to hearing from you!

If you are looking for a highly experienced, qualified, enthusiastic and engaging tutor, search no further! Throughout the years, I have developed a set of very effective teaching strategies, these can be communication or grammar-based, according to the student's needs. Lessons are entirely student-centred and will revolve around the student's goals and expectations.

I have been teaching Latin, Ancient Greek and Italian language and literature at Primary, Secondary and University level. I currently serve as a Classics teacher at The Glasgow Academy and have a very solid understanding of both the Scottish and the English exam system.

I have extensive experience as a researcher. During my PhD, I have presented in several conferences and have published six Academic peer-reviewed articles and two Encyclopaedia entries.* Such working experience places me in an excellent position to provide valuable advice to students working on their school as well as Post-Graduate dissertations.

Our lessons are going to be fun, engaging and highly effective: my hourly rate also includes the marking of any tasks assigned for homework. Moreover, at the end of each session, you will receive a brief summary of what we have covered during the lesson and some notes on how to further improve.

Moreover, I have successfully completed Latin conversation and composition courses run by the Schola Latina and the Istituto Italiano di Studi Classici. These allow me to teach Latin as a living language, through a much interactive communication-based method.

In brief, this is what I can offer:

- Grammar revision for both Latin and Greek;
- Translation techniques from both Latin and Greek;
- Latin Prose composition;
- Conversational Latin;
- Exam preparation (from GCSE/ Advanced Higher to Honours level);
- Italian language and literature (with a special focus on Dante, Renaissance literature and Theatre studies).
