I took piano lessons for 5 years and continued to practice on my own for several years. I received a Music Minor from Texas A&M University. Being in choir throughout school is what gave me my background in sight reading and music theory. This knowledge was strengthened by playing piano on a regular basis. I currently give piano lessons part-time but am looking to increase my student base. Teaching and music are two of my greatest passions in life. The structure of my lessons depends on what you are looking for, i.e., piano lessons, music theory lessons, or both. For piano, you will be given various songs to sightread as I believe sight reading is the foundation to understanding music. I am unique in that I want you to play what YOU want to play. For music theory, lessons will be more academically based. Piano and music theory go hand in hand, however, and you will naturally learn a little bit of both regardless of where your focus lies. :)
My experience in learning these subjects is vast as I have been learning piano and/or music theory for over 10 years. It would be an embellishment to say that my teaching experience is equally extensive. I currently have two students but as previously mentioned, I am looking for more! Although I don't have several years of official teaching under my belt, I believe it is who I am what I am supposed to be doing. I have taken my current students from beginner to intermediate level in less than one year. They sometimes will hear a song on the radio that sounds like it would be fun to play, so we obtain the sheet music and learn it together.
