I'm an graduate level engineer and have been in my share of (boring & difficult) classes.
Once out of the class, I've put my knowledge to the test building and designing systems like:

- flying drones for agriculture

- data analysis tools to help people get their work done faster

My approach is to ALWAYS relate the subject to topics my students are interested in. I believe that everyone is capable of learning nearly everything (haven't been wrong yet), if they find creative ways to give a _darn_ about WHY things work and then practice the essential skills for mastery.
