About Elena

Hello! My name is Elena and I am a 23 year old Oxford Classics graduate from London. I completed my undergraduate degree at Oxford in 2025 and have recently completed a Master's degree in Greek and Latin Languages and Literature, focusing especially on Greek Tragedy, one of my primary interests. Having been at school not too long ago, I'm familiar with what examiners are looking for and how best to help a student maximise their potential. Learning is different for everyone, and in working with each student I will provide the style of learning which is best suited to them.

About the lesson

I am happy to work with both GCSE and A Level students in Classical Greek, Latin and Classical Civilisations, and English Language and Literature as well as students of all ages just beginning their study of the ancient world. My language teaching combines a number of different kinds of learning as we discover what works best for each individual student. This could include working through an unseen passage together, as well as breaking down grammatical structures through shorter drills to strengthen the student's understanding of accidence and syntax, and getting students used to different styles of both poetry and prose. In Classical Civilisations and English Language and Literature we would work through practice questions together, go over areas they struggle with, and occasionally supplement with material beyond the syllabus to help students to achieve the best grades they are capable of. I also offer support with Oxbridge admissions, having gone through the process myself. This takes the form of anything from discussing what the experience is like and what applicants should expect, to help with writing and perfecting a personal statement, to mock interview practice. Typical lessons will last one hour, and can be as frequent as suits each student's needs. I will be providing constant feedback as well as homework and quizzes to help students outside of lessons.
