About Serena
I am a fun and outgoing person who enjoys meeting people. I love teaching students and discussing various topics to encourage students to think and ask questions. Some students may not feel confident asking questions, though I like to help students overcome any feelings of anxiety when learning new topics or when they are struggling to understand something. During my lessons, I like to use visual items (such as pictures, diagrams and online videos, PowerPoint) to help explain a learning point.

I am patient with students, and will go over topics with struggling learners until they understand. I am able to simplify complex information by adapting my communication style. Building a rapport with students is very important to me, as I think students learn better when they feel relaxed and get on well with someone who is teaching them. I like to inject humour into my lessons to help students feel less overwhelmed. I also like to plan my lessons to ensure I am teaching the students relevant material.
Listening to students is part of my teaching style as well as discussing various concepts/ideas. I provide constructive feedback to students so they know how they are improving.
Typical lesson length is 1 hour.
I am also TEFL certified and can teach English to students whose first language is not English.
I have tutored students over the years from aged 5 to adults.
