About James
Hello! I'm James, a future Classics student at Durham University with a genuine passion for Latin and Classical Greek.
I achieved all grade 9s at GCSE and was predicted A*A*A* at A-Level in Latin, Classical Greek, and History. Having recently completed my A-Levels, I understand first-hand the challenges students face and the techniques that make the biggest difference in exams. My particular interest lies in the ancient languages, and I enjoy helping others develop both their confidence and their understanding of them.
I believe that every student can succeed with the right guidance. Whether you're encountering Latin or Classical Greek for the first time or preparing for GCSE or A-Level, I aim to create a supportive, encouraging environment where questions are always welcome and progress is built step by step.
Outside of academics, I enjoy playing a variety of sports, particularly rugby and football. My interest in sport has also inspired me to explore its place in the ancient world, including the origins of the Olympic Games and the significance of athletics in Ancient Greece.

My lessons are designed around each student's individual goals, whether they are looking to build confidence, strengthen their understanding of grammar, or achieve the highest grades at GCSE or A-Level.
Having recently completed OCR A-Level Latin and Classical Greek myself, I have an up-to-date understanding of the specifications, exam technique, and the common challenges students face. My aim is not simply to help students memorise content, but to develop a genuine understanding of the language so they can approach unseen translations, prose composition, and set texts with confidence.
Lessons are tailored to each student and may include grammar, vocabulary, translation, prose composition, literary analysis, or exam technique, depending on their needs. I make extensive use of official OCR mark schemes, past-paper questions, and detailed feedback to help students understand exactly how to improve.
Lessons are typically one hour long and are suitable for beginners, GCSE students, and A-Level students. Whether you are learning Latin or Classical Greek for the first time, preparing for exams, or aiming for the highest grades, I will provide patient, supportive, and well-structured tuition tailored to your goals and pace.
