About Shenell
Hi, I'm Shenell.
Believe it or not, English wasn't always my favourite subject. When I was in primary school, I actually preferred Maths and often found English much more challenging. Everything changed when I had a teacher who believed in me, encouraged me and helped me see English in a completely different way. That experience sparked a passion that has stayed with me ever since.
Today, I hold a First Class degree in English & Creative Writing and work professionally in communications, where writing and storytelling are a key part of my role. Looking back, I think my own journey is one of the reasons I enjoy tutoring so much. I understand what it feels like to struggle with a subject, and I know how much of a difference the right support, encouragement and one-to-one guidance can make.
I previously worked as a tutor at Explore Learning, supporting children in English and Maths, and I currently mentor young people through my role as a Youth Director. These experiences have taught me that every student learns differently. My aim is to create a positive and supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, building confidence and reaching their potential.
Whether your child needs support with reading, writing, grammar, exam preparation or simply developing greater confidence in English, I will tailor lessons to their individual needs and learning style. My goal is not only to help students improve their grades, but also to help them develop a genuine belief in their own abilities.

My lessons are tailored to each student's individual needs, learning style and academic goals. I take a patient, supportive and encouraging approach, helping learners build confidence while developing the skills they need to succeed.
I begin by identifying a student's strengths and areas for improvement, then create personalised lessons that combine explanation, guided practice and independent activities. I use a range of resources, including worksheets, reading exercises, exam style questions and creative tasks to keep lessons engaging and effective.
I am a First Class English & Creative Writing graduate and previously worked as a tutor at Explore Learning, where I supported children in both English and Maths. I also have extensive experience mentoring young people through my role as a Youth Director and work professionally as a Content & Communications Executive and former Copywriter, giving me strong expertise in written communication.
Lessons are typically 60 minutes long, although shorter or longer sessions can be arranged. I offer support for primary school pupils, KS3 students, GCSE English Language and Literature students, and anyone looking to improve their reading, writing, grammar, spelling, comprehension or creative writing skills.
