About James

Teaching English has been my job for nine years, abroad and online, and I love it. Seeing the progress students make when they realise they can do something that they couldn't do before is an incredible feeling and I am honoured to be a part of that. I am currently studying an MA in Applied Linguistics and TESOL as I want to give students the best, most enjoyable and efficient language learning experience I can.

I have been learning Spanish for two years so I really understand the difficulties of learning a language. patience from the teacher, room to explore and experiment and feedback on mistakes are crucial to me as a learner so I always give those to my students.

About the lesson

I have been learning Spanish myself for two years so I really understand how it feels to be a language student. My methodology varies on your reason for improving your English, but as much as possible I use real-world situations to teach and encourage free conversation to really practice natural language. I use modern, high quality coursebooks with audio and video files and I can make classes for specific topics if required. All mistakes are recorded for either review together at the end of the class or in your own time. The feedback is stored online to be always accessible.

I suggest a lesson time of 55 minutes, concentration starts to drop around this time! I can teach any level ages 11 to adult.

• Jan 2022 – present MA Applied Linguistics and TESOL at Portsmouth University

• Dec 2021 DELTA Module 1

• Sep 2018 – May 2019 PGCEi with Nottingham University, Valencia cohort

• June – Nov 2017 Trinity College Cert TESOL

• Jan 2012 120-hour TEFL Certification with UniTEFL Chiang Mai.

• May 2011 BaHons Product Design 2:2 from Sheffield Hallam University

• May 2008 Foundation Art, Media and Design at Sheffield Hallam University
