About Lydia
I was a university lecturer and teacher at government and private schools for many years. I now teach students from around the world Afrikaans online from Cape Town. I have many years' experience teaching Afrikaans as additional/foreign language. In my post-graduate studies I focused on bi- and multilingualism and language acquisition. It has been very enjoyable working with adults who need Afrikaans to communicate, eg. in financial institutions, missionaries, scientists, workers at NGOs, etc. These beginners learn very quickly. I set, marked and moderate final examination papers (Afrikaans as First Additional Language) for matrics, wrote articles and presented papers on aspects Afrikaans. As tutor I have worked with learners doing the CAPS curriculum, Cambridge courses (in different parts of the world) and have found it most rewarding. Results have been excellent with students getting up to 90% and A star for orals.

All lessons are adapted to the level of the students and their needs. I focus on high-frequency words in vocabulary and teach the principles of grammar in contexts and in the simplest way possible. I mainly use Skype, Zoom,Google Meets, etc. My approach is simply to make the learning process stress-free and fun! It is possible!
I have many years of experience teaching Afrikaans as an additional or foreign language at universities, colleges and various schools. Students vary from youngsters, many in foreign countries, to professional adults and older folk wanting to learn Afrikaans.
