About Kirste

Hello! I’m Kirste, a professional realism artist and art instructor as well as a composer, musician and piano instructor. I grew up in an artistic family, and my parents always encouraged me to explore my creativity. Our home often felt like a little museum, surrounded by art and creative inspiration, including my father’s work as a comic artist. That environment helped shape my love of art and the way I approach teaching.

I took advanced, college-level art coursework in high school and have been creating commissioned realism artwork for about 14 years. I have always enjoyed the patience and close observation that realistic art calls for, how it gives a different perspective for the little details in life we may never otherwise sit with. The ability to recreate something helps us to showcase the details we value deeply while capturing the things we like or love the most in this world.

I also have about seven years of private teaching experience. I’ve worked with students of all different ages from 3 to 85, and have experience supporting students with special needs. I value getting to know each student as an individual and finding an approach that helps them feel comfortable, engaged, and ready to grow.

As an artist and teacher, I believe art can be both enjoyable and skill-building. I love helping students explore their ideas while developing a strong foundation in the techniques behind their work. I’m grateful to have built a life around creativity, and I look forward to sharing that with my students.

English

My one-on-one fine-art lessons are tailored to each student’s experience, interests, and goals. Whether you’re beginning to explore realism or looking to strengthen skills you already have, we can focus on the subjects and techniques that matter most to you.

A lesson might begin with a conversation about what you’d like to work on, followed by focused practice and guidance as you develop a drawing. We can work on careful observation, proportion, form, composition, light and shadow, shading, and realistic rendering. I can also help you explore traditional drawing materials and find the approaches that best suit your goals. Portfolio development support is available for students who are building or strengthening a collection of work.

I want lessons to feel encouraging and focused, with room to ask questions, experiment, and learn at your own pace. Each student learns differently, so I adapt my explanations and demonstrations to what helps you understand. My approach is progress over perfection: we can work through challenges step by step and build confidence alongside technique.

Free Introductory Meeting (30 minutes)

Our first 30 minutes are free and give us a chance to meet and get to know each other before beginning regular lessons. We can talk about your artistic experience, goals, and interests, what you’d like to learn or work on, and any questions or practical details. It also gives me a chance to learn more about you and how I can best tailor lessons to your needs. For in-person lessons, I ask that we meet virtually before scheduling lessons at my home studio. Online students are welcome to begin lessons without a prior meeting.

Lesson Rate

My standard private fine-art lesson is 60 minutes and costs $60. Shorter lessons may be available by arrangement.

Superprof Lesson Packages

Because Superprof lists packages in five- and ten-hour increments, these align with five or ten standard 60-minute fine-art lessons. A five-hour package ($300) covers five lessons, while a ten-hour package ($600) covers ten lessons.
