About Gok-Lim

My name is Gok-Lim. I’m a sessional academic for professional, creative, and academic writing. I have over 8 years of experience teaching essay writing and academic communication at a tertiary level. In that time, I have provided instruction and guidance for over 1000 students. I also have fifteen years of publishing experience working as a magazine editor and freelance writer, and am also an artist, administrator, curator, and small business owner. I am passionate about written expression. In my experience as a tutor, I have seen firsthand how an improvement to written expression can dramatically improve someone’s life and future possibilities. There is nothing more rewarding than helping people in this way.

My career experience as a professional writer and artist allows me to provide instruction on a wide range of writing modes and topics - magazine articles, poetry, academic essays, fiction, and funding grants - depending on the needs of the student. I am a friendly, patient, and attentive tutor who will walk with you on your learning journey.

About the lesson

I believe in an approach to teaching that encourages and supports intrinsic motivation and the unique strengths of each student. The first lesson will be an interview to discuss each student’s goals, milestones, and personal interests. After which, I will build a custom lesson plan that will provide you with tools, resources, and exercises that will utilise your own interests to help build your knowledge and self-confidence with your written and oral expression.

Each lesson will typically run for 60 minutes, but length and structure can be tailored to suit the student as well. Lessons will combine learning modules, writing exercises, workshopping, and feedback. These will cover anything from critical thinking methods, essay structure, reading skills, writing techniques, editing, grammar, and oral presentations.
