About Helen

I am a professionally trained actor and fully qualified Drama teacher, with over 19 years' teaching experience. I trained on the Three Year Acting Course at the world-renowned drama school, LAMDA (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art). I went on to act professionally in both theatre and television before deciding to put all my talent and passion into teaching Drama. I gained a PGCE with Distinction from Manchester Metropolitan University, before going on to teach in Secondary Schools both in Manchester and internationally, in Mexico, where my lessons were consistently graded as Outstanding.

I am a very experienced acting, LAMDA, and Speech and Drama teacher, with my students consistently gaining excellent results, as well as developing confidence, self-expression and creative skills. I have also been an examiner for A-level Drama and Theatre Studies and a moderator for GCSE Drama. I enjoy bringing out the unique strengths in each individual and I am a neuro-affirming tutor, having supported many neurodivergent students.

For the last 12 years I have successfully taught monologues and audition preparation, helping my students gain places at drama schools including: Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, Guildford School of Acting, The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (RCS), Mountview Academy and Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts.

About the lesson

I will begin by establishing a rapport, assessing individual ability, needs and goals, giving students a choice of material in order for them to take ownership of their work, identifying learning preferences and ensuring a safe, supportive environment is created to encourage confidence.

I will give regular feedback, using several pedagogical strategies and continually adapt to ensure progress is made. My approach will provide challenge and encouragement as I aim for tutees to enjoy and value the learning experience, whilst gaining a greater knowledge and understanding of the material.

I aim to inspire creativity, self-expression, the freedom to explore and excellence through a positive attitude and work ethic. I am very supportive and encourage and nurture individual talent. I currently teach students aged 6-19 years old.

I am a neurodivergent-affirming tutor and use neuroaffirming language.

Acting lessons and Audition Prep lessons:
£40.00 per hour: for age 6-18 (Year 2-Year 13).
£50.00 per hour: for adults, age 19 and above.
LAMDA exams:
£40.00 per hour for students studying Grades from Introductory level exams, up to and including Grade 3.
£45.00 per hour for Grade 4-5.
£50.00 per hour for Grades 6-8.
GCSE and A-level:
£45.00 per hour for GCSE Drama.
£50.00 per hour for A-level Drama.

I offer tuition online, or I can travel to you. Travel is usually from £5.00-£10.00+ per lesson, depending on distance.
