About Aletha
Hello, my name is Aletha and I am a 25 years old South African online ESL teacher. I initially started my teaching career when my family and I immigrated to Shanghai in China when I was 16. I saw an opportunity to start tutoring Chinese children and quickly built a student base where I would go and tutor students after I finished school.
After I graduated from the British International School of Shanghai, I spent one year studying Chinese language at Shanghai Jiaotong University. During my studies I worked for a company called Lingua-tutor where I would hold both private and kindergarten lessons for Chinese students aged between 3-14 years old.
After I finished my year of studies I immigrated to Scotland to pursue a degree in International business management with Chinese. During this time I continued to teach some of my previous students online. As part of my degree I had the opportunity to move to Tianjin in China for a year where I studied at the Tianjin University of Finance and Economics. During this time I started tutoring again. I worked for a company called Nottingham English Education and acted as their demo teacher to give introductory lessons to students before they signed up. I also taught kindergarten classes with up to 30 students and also did private tutoring. During this time I also offered my services for the students at my university and helped prepare them for their final examinations.
After successfully completing my degree from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, I moved back to South Africa. I completed my TEFL certification and started working for Magic Ears where I tutor student online everyday. I also have several private students whom I teach Cambridge and Family and Friends courses to.
As part of my TEFL certification I also took a business English course and have managed to build a student base to whom I teach Business English, conversational English and occasionally assist with interview preparation.

I tailor make each lesson to fit the needs of my individual student. Initially we would discuss my students goals and what it is they would like to achieve. After, I would design and tailor the lesson so we can reach our goals in the agreed upon timeframe.
For children:
I would generally use TPR combined with a range of fun and engaging activities to help them learn in a fun way. I do a lot of speaking exercises focussed on topics they are interested in.
After every lesson I assign a homework activity to practise the content we have learned in our lesson. I am always available on standby to assist with any questions they might have. I use a variety of course materials but tend to focus on the Cambridge course combined with elements of Family and Friends.
Teenagers:
For teenagers preparing for their IELTS exams or who are struggling at school I would prepare lessons to take them through the course thoroughly, at a pace they are comfortable with.
I have experience in helping students prepare for their exams and can offer a marking service in which I can identify mistakes and the corrections in mock-tests which will hep them succeed in their final examination.
Adults:
For adults I can offer Business English, interview preparation and general English improvement classes depending on their needs.
