About Lisa
I’m a dedicated tutor and learning coach for students in Grades 4–10, specializing in helping students learn how to learn. Instead of focusing only on homework or short-term results, I teach proven study strategies that build real understanding, confidence, and long-term academic success.
My approach is based on effective learning methods such as active recall, self-quizzing, flashcards, teaching back, chunking and association techniques, mind mapping, and purposeful repetition. I tailor each session to the student’s needs, learning style, and goals, making lessons engaging, supportive, and practical.
I’m passionate about helping students feel more confident in their abilities, become independent learners, and develop study skills they can use across all subjects. My goal is not just better grades—but stronger learning habits for life.

My Approach as a Tutor
Teaching method and techniques
My tutoring focuses on helping students learn how to learn, not just memorize content. I use proven learning strategies such as active recall, self-quizzing, flashcards, teaching-back, chunking and association techniques, mind mapping, and purposeful repetition. These methods help students understand concepts deeply and retain information long-term. I adapt each technique to match the student’s learning style, pace, and school curriculum.
A typical lesson plan
Each session begins with a short check-in and review of previous material using active recall. I then introduce new content in small, manageable chunks and guide the student through examples and practice. Students explain concepts back to me to strengthen understanding. We finish with quick self-quizzes, flashcards, or a short summary task, plus a simple plan for practice between sessions.

I don’t just help with homework—I teach students effective learning strategies they can use in every subject. My goal is to build confidence, independence, and strong study habits, so students become more motivated and capable learners over time.
