About Elaine
I am an experienced English tutor as well as a published author. I have worked as a copywriter and editor. My experience in tutoring has mostly been with high school, college students, and adults who wish to write a book. I studied English at the University of Central Florida where I took workshops in fiction writing and screenwriting. I have also tutored non-native English speakers and helped with their undergraduate and graduate theses and dissertations. I'd love to help you if you are a high school or college student or are looking for help expanding your knowledge and skillset. I believe in going at your pace. First, I like to determine your goals. For example: Are you a student who needs help with a specific assignment? Are you trying to become a better writer to enhance your career? Would you like to write a book and don't know where to start?
My lessons are for high school, college-level students, or adults looking to expand their knowledge and hone their writing skills.

A typical lesson plan for a student with a writing assignment in college:
We determine what you have so far:
- what do you have written?
- what is the topic?
- are there any special instructions from your professor?
- What style are you using? (MLA, APA, etc)
- What are you have trouble with/what do you feel needs improved?
- We will focus each lesson on a specific issue/concern and I will guide you in a logical manner and give examples for you to practice to gain a thorough understanding.
An example of a general lesson in creative writing:
- We start with discussing the different types of creative writing and what you are interested in the most.
- We discuss what makes a great story/what is necessary (conflict, character, setting, etc)
- We try some writing exercises to get warmed up. For example:
- Write a paragraph describing your perfect day using all five senses (where are you, what is the weather like, who are you with, etc)
- Write a short scene between two people who have to work together on a project but do not like each other.
- Write a scene in which you character says, "I should have seen that coming."
- I may recommend some short stories to read to get you inspired.
