About Katie
I take a calm, structured and practical approach to tutoring, with a strong focus on making learning accessible and confidence-building for both parents and children. My sessions are designed to be clear and easy to follow, breaking phonics down into small, manageable steps so that parents feel fully equipped to support their child’s reading at home.
Rather than relying on memorisation, I focus on helping parents understand how phonics works, so they can apply it consistently in everyday reading activities with their child.
Sessions include guided teaching, practical application, and time for questions so that parents leave with clear strategies they can confidently use between lessons.
My lessons are aimed at parents of early years and primary-aged children (approximately ages 3–7) who are beginning their phonics journey or who would benefit from additional support in early reading development.

My approach to tutoring is supportive, structured, and tailored to each family’s needs, with a strong focus on building confidence and long-term independence in learning. I specialise in helping parents support their children with phonics and early reading, so that learning continues effectively beyond the session.
I am a qualified teacher with NVQ Level 2 and 3 in Children and Young People’s Workforce, safeguarding awareness training, and a degree in Childhood and Youth Studies. I also have experience in Portage, counselling skills, and supporting children’s emotional and learning development, including understanding children’s mental health.
My sessions are aimed at parents of early years and primary-aged children (approximately ages 3–7), particularly those who are beginning to learn phonics or who need additional support with early reading skills.
