About Rich

I’ve always loved helping people understand something new — that moment when it finally clicks is one of the best parts of teaching. I bring a calm and friendly presence to each session, and I believe learning works best when it’s grounded in curiosity, not pressure. Outside of teaching, I enjoy reading, playing football, and spending time with my own children, which has given me even more insight into how differently every child learns. I’m endlessly interested in how young people think, what sparks their imagination, and how to make learning feel meaningful to them. I’m down to earth, reliable, and not afraid to have a bit of fun along the way — I find humour, creativity and encouragement go a long way in building trust and making progress. My sessions are relaxed but purposeful, with a strong focus on helping students feel comfortable and capable. Ultimately, I’m here to support not just what you learn, but how you feel about learning — because confidence, enjoyment and effort are just as important as getting the answer right.

About the lesson

During my 14 years of teaching children ranging from 5-11 years old, I’ve worked with children of varying abilities and needs, helping them grow in confidence and make real progress in their learning. What sets me apart is my calm, patient approach and my ability to build genuine rapport with young people. I take time to understand each child’s personality, learning style, and what helps them feel most secure. I know that confidence is often the key to success, and my sessions are designed to be encouraging, supportive and tailored to the individual. Whether a child needs to revisit key concepts, deepen their understanding, or simply believe they can do it, I create a space where they feel safe to take risks and ask questions. I’m skilled at breaking down complex ideas into manageable steps and using clear, positive feedback to help children move forward. I’ve supported children with a wide range of needs, including those with SEND, and I work flexibly to adapt sessions accordingly. My goal is always to make learning feel more achievable — and more enjoyable. Above all, I want the children I teach to feel proud of what they can do. With the right support and a bit of encouragement, every child can succeed.
