About Jenica

With consistent availability and an enthusiasm for teaching reading, I promise your student is bound to have a ton of fun and laughs working with me on reading. Hopefully it won't even feel like work and your student won't even notice how much they are learning! I've been doing this a long time, so parents are almost never needed to be in the room or supervising sessions and students quickly become comfortable with my teaching approach. You can expect little to no formal assessment (I choose rather to focus on informal assessment and built-in assessment). Sessions are pressure-free and if your student has a learning disability or struggles to focus, do not worry! This is what I do best :)

About the lesson

As a licensed special education teacher and a private reading tutor for 5+ years, I have a structure for teaching literacy to grades K-4 down to a system. Reading is such an important skill for longterm success and I want to support students who are struggling to stay at grade level. In the first session, I am able to informally assess the student and determine where his or her greatest 2-3 areas of weakness are among the 5 reading foundations: phonics, phonemic awareness, fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary. From there, we continue to touch on all areas, especially focusing on those 2-3 areas of weaknesses with lesson plans including games, reading without pressure, writing, and various activities for improved literacy. You are guaranteed to notice progress within the first few months of working with me, and I can't wait to hear how their performance has improved at school as well!
