About Phyllis
Phyllis E. Tetreault, MS in education (Hofstra University 2000). Phyllis has taught full time in private, charter and public schools for 23 years in New York State. Phyllis is skilled in educating special education and general education students. It is my belief that all children can learn to read. Each child has unique gifts and abilities and therefore may learn differently. Reading is an exciting journey!

As a grade 3 reading tutor in Willingboro, NJ, we will focus on building fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary skills through a variety of engaging activities, including reading aloud, discussing texts, and using graphic organizers.
Here's a more detailed breakdown of what we will teach:
I. Foundational Skills:
• Phonics:
• Syllabication: Help students break down multi-syllable words into syllables.
• Consonant and Vowel Sounds: Reinforce the sounds of letters, consonant blends, digraphs, and vowel digraphs/diphthongs.
• Suffixes and Inflectional Endings: Practice identifying and using suffixes and inflectional endings like "-ed", "-ing", and "-s".
• Compound Words: Introduce and practice identifying compound words.
• Vocabulary:
• Context Clues: Teach students to use context clues to determine the meaning of unfamiliar words.
• Dictionary Skills: Guide students on how to use a dictionary to find definitions and pronunciations.
• Synonyms and Antonyms: Introduce and practice using synonyms and antonyms.
• Fluency:
• Reading Aloud: Practice reading aloud with appropriate pacing and expression.
• Repetitive Texts: Use repetitive texts to build fluency and confidence.
• Choral Reading: Engage in choral reading to improve fluency and rhythm.
