About Laura
I recently graduated Georgetown University, where I received B.A.s in government and English. Now, I'm a strategy & communications consultant, where writing analytically and persuasively is the fundamental skill set of my job. I've helped students from elementary school to college write more clearly and effectively about a wide variety of topics, from philosophy, to literature, to their own experiences for college applications. I prioritize being friendly, honest, and professional, and I'm looking forward to working with you!

I take a thoughtful, understanding approach to helping students excel in writing. Usually, I recommend students come to me with an assignment or application that they need help with, and we spend some time very casually talking through ideas, before turning to creating an outline together. Once the student has written a draft (which I am happy to help with), I can give feedback for taking their writing and ideas to the next level. I'm happy to iterate with a student as many times as necessary before turning in an assignment, and to review feedback after a grade has been received. For elementary school students, I focus on the fundamentals of writing paragraphs and explaining reasoning, while quietly encouraging students to expand their vocabularies and introducing transition words. For middle schoolers, I start to introduce flow and form into teaching essay writing, as well as a further elevated vocabulary. When I work with high schoolers, I like to let them lead our sessions, prompting them to explain their ideas and asking questions to prompt a more complex argument, before taking the proofreading pen. For college students, I love helping with idea generation, language refinement, counterargument development, and the more nuanced elements of expository writing, but it's easy to jump in wherever a student needs help most.
