About the lesson

Foremost, English is a language, before it becomes an academic field. It follows that I structure my lessons like conversations! When I provide feedback on a writing prompt or essay, I encourage my students to provide feedback on my feedback, because whether we're referring to English as a language or as an academic field, English's purpose is to create discourse, and that's exactly what I hope to be able to create with each of my students.

About Matthew

English skills, whether they manifest in writing, reading, or analytically thinking, are some of the most important tools one should have in order to engage with the world in meaningful ways. Without my background in English academia, I would not have been able to articulate the feelings that produced my documentary film about my grassroots competitive fighting game community's interesection with the corproate forces of E-sports. This film, and a written accompaniment, composed my honors project at Hobart and William Smith Colleges, which I graduated from in May of 2019.

If you're not interessted in reading or writing lessons, I'd be happy to tutor you in the art of competitive fighting video games!
