My first approach is to get to know my constituent (client). Why are you seeking a tutor? Do you mind providing me with your assessments from your school/teacher (e.g. report card evaluations, benchmark assessments, district and state test results)? This information will help provide me with a picture of your strengths and weaknesses. I will review the state standards for your level and develop a pre-assessment. I will then use these results to develop a Plan of Study for our tutoring sessions. After every 5-7 lessons, I will reassess the skills we worked on to make necessary modifications in your Plan of Study. At the end of our tutoring sessions (i.e. 4 months, 6 months, 1 year) I will administer a post assessment to compare your performance to the pre-assessment. In short, I am a results-oriented instructor. If you are not showing improvement, I need to change my methods of instruction. I am a diagnostic-prescriptive instructor. I diagnose what areas you need to improve and prescribe a plan of action to accomplish my goal help you achieve.
I am an administrator, a teacher and most importantly, a learner. My educational background includes Post Doctoral Studies in middle grades mathematics, Doctor of Education in educational administration and supervision, Master of Science in computer education with a concentration in elementary education, and Bachelor of Arts in general science. I love teaching and even as an administrator, I was a teacher, and a learner; and as a teacher I was also a learner. I believe we all can learn from each other because our strengths vary and how we view things in life brings a unique perspective to each individual in a learning environment.
The hourly rate will be $5 more if I have to travel more than 20 miles to provide my service. Twenty-four (24) hour advance notice of cancellation is required or hourly rate must be paid. Must arrange a minimum of 2 hours per week for two days a week (preferably 3) to adequately provide continuity of instruction and enhance knowledge retention. A minimum of a 4-month contract is recommended due to the comprehensive nature required to develop and implement an effective Plan of Study (will possibly consider a shorter term depending on the needs of the learner). I expect for my students to show ongoing improvement; If my techniques of instruction and materials are not improving your achievement, I will not obligate you to the minimum contract recommended.
