Caring, respectful relationships lie at the heart of my teaching, for teaching and learning work best when a teacher and her students are able to connect on a human level!
What will this mean for you as my student?
1) You'll know that your tutor genuinely cares about you and your success. Few factors could be more effective in helping you grow as a writer!
2) I'll have opportunities to learn about your interests, goals, dreams, strengths, weaknesses, and learning needs. This knowledge will help me decide which teaching strategies are likely to work best for you. Meanwhile, you can rest assured that I have or will ask for the information I need to make instruction comprehensible, relevant, and engaging.
3) You and I will enjoy a sense of respect for one another. This mutual sense of respect gives you the freedom to experiment and to make mistakes without worrying about trying to impress me. A mutually respectful relationship also makes it easier for me to say one of the most important things a good teacher can say: "I can't answer that question; let's discover the answer together!"
Because I want to establish a respectful relationship with you, I will spend our first tutoring session getting to know who you are, what your dreams are, and how I can help you achieve them. At this session, we'll also set goals together and draw up a schedule of times to meet.
Typical goals for writing instruction include the following:
+develop a more efficient and effective writing process
+develop strategies for identifying the strengths and weaknesses in your own writing
+discover how the reading that you do can help you become a better writer
+continue developing your knowledge of and skill in using English grammar, vocabulary, and style
Subsequent sessions will include plenty of opportunities for you to ask questions, make suggestions, or let me know about any happenings in your life that may affect your learning or your work.
I look forward to meeting you soon!

Lori was the lecturer of multiple writing classes when I was studying at the University of Michigan. She is an expert in writing, editing, and teaching. Her specialization in English as Second Language is also super helpful to students from my background. During my years at UM, Lori helped me improve my writing in significant ways. She was a great teacher and mentor to me.
I highly recommend Lori to anyone who is looking to improve their writings!!
I have known Dr. Lori Randall for over twenty years and reveled in her excellency in writing, teaching and the examples she has set and continues to set in every aspect of her life. She is to be trusted for the needs of all students. She is excellent.
