About Richard
I have been a college English professor for three decades. I was honored with the Plattsburgh State Teaching Excellence Award and received the State University of New York's highest teaching award, the Chancellor's Award for Teaching Excellence. I am also a former prep school college counselor and former NCAA Division I basketball coach at the University of California, Berkeley. I studied at the University of Chicago, the University of California, and McGill University in Montréal, Québec, Canada. I am an elected delegate to the Modern Language Association, and a former fellow at the Institute for Public Ethics at the State University of New York. I have over thirty years of experience helping students improve their scores on the PSAT, SAT, ACT, GRE, and LSAT. As a college counselor, I help students through the entire college application process. Former students have been accepted at such colleges as Harvard, MIT, Brown, UPenn, Cornell, Tufts, Grinnell, Williams, the Claremont Colleges, Berkeley, UCLA, Michigan, Virginia, Wisconsin, and many others.

Test preparation includes general strategies for all sections of the SAT and ACT, with specific strategies for every question type appearing on the tests.
For comprehensive college counseling, I will guide you through every step of the admissions process, from choosing the right colleges to apply to, completing application, writing the college essay, filling out financial aid forms, finding the right fit among those colleges that offer admission, and making an smooth transition from high school to college. We will look in detail at what kinds of things college admissions are looking for at different colleges and what pitfalls to avoid in the admissions process in order to give you as many choices as possible for your college career. The goal is to find the best fit for your undergraduate experience.
