About Allison
With over 18 years of experience teaching drums to school students, college students, and working professionals, I am passionate about helping learners discover their musical potential. My teaching style is friendly, practical, and focused on continuous improvement. I believe that learning drums should be a joyful process where students feel encouraged and confident.
My tutoring approach includes step-by-step lessons, personalized feedback, and clear explanations. I teach essential drumming skills such as timing, rhythm reading, coordination, tempo control, and improvisation. I also help students build stamina, develop proper technique, and understand drum patterns across different music styles like rock, pop, jazz, and funk.
In addition to drums, I teach rhythm theory, ear training, percussion basics, and music reading skills. These subjects give students a complete understanding of rhythm and help them grow as well-rounded musicians. One of my unique strengths is my patience and adaptability. I work comfortably with beginners who are holding drumsticks for the first time, as well as advanced learners looking to refine complex techniques.
I also specialize in teaching working professionals who need flexible lesson plans and structured practice routines. My students describe my classes as enjoyable, motivating, and easy to follow. Many have successfully performed on stage, joined bands, and developed strong musical confidence under my guidance. My approach to teaching drums is guided by three principles: Communication, Creativity, and Flexibility. Communication helps me understand the student’s goals and preferred music style. I talk with students about what they enjoy, what they struggle with, and what they want to achieve. This helps me plan lessons that feel relevant and exciting for them.
Creativity helps students build a deeper connection with drumming. I encourage them to experiment with rhythms, create their own grooves, and try different accents and fills. I also include play-along sessions with songs so students can learn how drumming works in real music. Creative exercises not only build skill but also develop musical confidence and expression.
Flexibility allows me to adjust lessons to the student’s level. Whether they are complete beginners or have some experience, I match the pace accordingly. If a concept is difficult, I slow down and break it into small steps. If a student learns fast, I introduce advanced coordination, timing refinement, and stylistic techniques.
In addition to drums, I can teach beginner music theory and rhythm training. My goal is to support students in a friendly, flexible, and creative learning environment where they can grow at their own pace.
