About Shahab

I have spent my working life in pursuit of two things: stories worth telling, and ideas worth understanding. As a postgraduate in English with over 30 years of teaching behind me, I have had the privilege of exploring language and literature not as a set of rules to be memorised, but as a living conversation - one that anyone with curiosity and courage can join.

But here is what I have come to believe most deeply: knowledge that stays locked inside one person is knowledge half-wasted. The moment it is shared - debated, questioned, passed on - it comes alive. That is why I teach.

I am not interested in drilling you through past papers and tick-box exercises. I want to show you how to read with real attention, how to write with genuine voice, and how to fall in love with the power that language gives you. The grammar matters, the technique matters - but the hunger to express yourself well matters far more.

If you come to me curious, I will meet you there. Together we will make something of that curiosity that neither of us could manage alone.

About the lesson

I am an experienced English tutor with a 30-year proven track record in selective school preparation, specialising in the 11+ and 13+ examinations that open the doors to the country's leading independent and grammar schools.

Over three decades, I have developed a sharp understanding of what these schools are looking for - and how to bring out the best in every child I work with. My role extends well beyond exam coaching. I work with parents as a trusted adviser, helping them assess which schools are genuinely the right fit for their child academically, socially, and personally, so that no opportunity is missed and no application is misplaced.

I offer a premium, bespoke service. Parents who invest in quality tuition - rather than simply the cheapest option - see the difference in their child's progress, their confidence, and ultimately, in the offers they receive. My results over 30 years make the case better than anything else could.

MY APPROACH

No two children learn in the same way, and I do not teach as though they do. Every lesson is built around the individual child - their strengths, their gaps, their pace, and their personality. My sessions last one hour, a duration I have found gives enough time to explore ideas properly without losing focus or momentum.

I work with children aged 7 to 16, from early primary through to GCSE, covering the full range of English skills: reading comprehension, creative writing, essay technique, grammar and vocabulary, and verbal reasoning for those preparing for the 11+. Rather than working through a fixed syllabus, I assess where each child is at the outset and build a programme that moves them forward from that point - always with their target school or exam firmly in view.

MY QUALIFICATIONS

I hold a degree and postgraduate degree in English, and have spent 30 years putting that academic grounding to practical use in the homes and lives of the families I work with. My experience spans hundreds of students and every kind of learner. I understand not just the subject, but the pressures children face - and how to help them meet those pressures with skill and confidence.
