About Sarah
Growing up as a Palestinian Jordanian American, I often felt stuck between two worlds. I didn’t always feel "American enough" in the U.S. or "Arab enough" when I visited family overseas. Over time, I learned to love this mix by celebrating the traditions that keep me grounded, like eating Makluba with my family, wearing traditional Thobes, and dancing the Dabke at weddings.
Learning the Arabic language was a huge part of my journey. Mastering it helped me connect with my relatives and earn the Seal of Biliteracy. This taught me that language is more than just words; it is a bridge to who we are. I now realize that I don’t have to pick just one place to belong, because all parts of my heritage are a part of me.
This personal journey is why I want to be a teacher. I am currently studying English Secondary Education at Saint Xavier University and plan to earn my ESL and ELL endorsements. Because I was once an ESL student myself, I truly understand how hard it can be to learn a new language while trying to fit in.
Today, I am proud of all my cultures. My goal is to be the mentor who helps every student have that "lightbulb" moment where everything clicks. I am dedicated to building a classroom where every student feels welcome and sees their own diverse background as a great strength rather than a weakness.

My teaching method varies depending on the student. If a student doesn't feel confident in writing essays, I start small by laying out different ideas to write about. However, if I observe a student with a little more confidence, I just go straight into writing and advising on the way. While tutoring, I try to keep my main focus to be the student because building confidence in your student's work helps them excel whether you are present or not. The reason I decide to tutor this way is because during my time as a student I needed confidence in myself to be able to excel. So my main focus is to build confidence while still directing on the way.
