About Alex
I am a devoted theater educator and scholar. I graduated from Oberlin College in May 2017, and received the James S. McLaughlin award for excellence in theater. I have worked with youth ages 7-18 at acclaimed creative performing arts camps, Bucks Rock Camp and Ballibay, and at the nationally recognized Nashville Children's Theater. I taught these young artists how to interpret both modern and classic plays, and how to bring these texts to life. In addition to my work with young people, I've worked as a mentor and guest artist at the collegiate level. This past year, I mentored Columbia University undergraduate students in the development of a new play. In my undergraduate career, I taught peers techniques in acting, directing, and play interpretation. Currently, I am the assistant executive director and teaching artist at a Shakespearean after school program, and work with students ages 11-14 in understanding Shakespearean language.

I teach according to Montessori principles, and am committed to accessibility. I cater to individual students' needs, and differentiate material accordingly, Matching the method to the individual ensures each student achieves their academic goals. I've found conversation allows students to better retain information, and so rather than lecture, I encourage dialogue with pupils. This way, students not only learn the relevant material for the current situation, but they also build their logic and problem solving skills.
