About Tess
I am a third-year student at UC Berkeley studying Public Health. I have been an online mathematics instructor at Mathnasium of Alameda throughout the pandemic, providing homework help and teaching concrete math skills to elementary and middle school students. Growing up, I was a serious competitive gymnast, and I coached gymnastics throughout high school. I was also a babysitter for two young neighbors for multiple years. I am passionate about getting students interested in STEM, and I am involved in clubs at UC Berkeley that help students get involved in science and math, another reason why I enjoy tutoring students in math!

I approach each topic presented to me (oftentimes worksheets and homework help) by asking the student first what they can tell me about the topic and see what knowledge they already have, then I help them fill in the blanks based on what they will be working on. I like to ask the students questions to engage them and get them thinking about what is in front of them, then I walk them through the parts that they don't understand. Typically, I go over a problem or two with them step-by-step, then have them try one on their own before I jump in again.
