About Alison
I have been working in education for 20 years and am starting 11th year as a special education teacher. I work mainly in the 7th grade in English classes, but have some experience in math as well. I believe in breaking things down into smaller chunks for students to learn one step at a time. If a student gets it and can move faster, I can easily adapt as needed for that student's learning profile. As a special education teacher, I am constantly changing and adapting for my students. prefer to build a rapport with my students and want to know how they learn best.

I prefer to show the student the expectations as well as work through the process with them. When a student is struggling, I adjust my teaching to fit what they need as best as I can. I like to have fun in my classroom, but set boundaries as well. I enjoy reading and comprehension as well as writing. If a student needed to work on their comprehension skills, we would read together and work on guiding questions to improve their skills. I like to break down the writing process into small steps for students who struggle to write, this works and helps to slow their brain down to break down each piece of the writing process. I am special education teacher certified for grades 5-12, but my speciality is middle school students.
