About Lia
My name is Lia. I am getting my masters of fine arts in creative writing from the University of Alaska Fairbanks. At UAF, I design and teach freshman and sophomore writing classes. I have my bachelors of science from Stanford University where I majored in Earth Systems Science. I started tutoring in college, and I now have 7 years of tutoring experience and 2 years of experience teaching at the college level.

I can help K-12 and undergrad students with writing projects of all kinds. Many students come with an assignment or project they are working on, however I can help with any part of the writing process from brainstorming to revision to proofreading.
I’m a writer and professor, and my love of words comes first. In my lessons I help students tap into their own creative potential and teach them to love the writing process. Writing scares a lot of people because every word is a choice we have to make. The process is slow and we often have to come to terms with our imperfections on the page in order to improve them. This is an evolution that takes place with every piece, every assignment, and it’s something even a “writing expert” can’t escape. So whether it’s a research paper, a short essay, or a best selling novel, it’s all about the very teachable steps that lead to a great piece of writing and a great writer.
