About Sonia
Hi! I’m Sonia, a second-year student at UCLA studying Computer Science and Linguistics with a minor in Bioinformatics. I am passionate about using technology as a tool to create real-world impact, from healthcare to social justice. I have experience teaching and mentoring students of diverse backgrounds, including neurodivergent students, English Language Learners, and underprivileged youth. I have co-founded a nonprofit focused on teaching coding to underserved communities, led and expanded a Girls Who Code club, and taught STEM workshops for several years. Through years of tutoring, I’ve learned how to adapt my teaching to how students learn best, helping them master core fundamentals and foster curiosity through creating something tangible.

My lessons are highly interactive and adapted to each learner’s pace and goals. I focus on building strong fundamentals through problem-solving puzzles, and real-world applications rather than monotonous memorization. A typical lesson includes reviewing key concepts, guided practice, and applying skills to a small project or challenge.
What I specialize in:
I work best with students who are new to STEM or want to strengthen their foundations while building confidence.
My focus areas include:
1. Coding: Python, Java, C++, HTML/CSS, JavaScript, and other foundational computer science concepts
2. Math fundamentals: Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Calculus, and Linear Algebra
