About KAREN

I have a Bachelor's degree in English and Education and an MA in screenwriting. I have experience of teaching KS2 KS3 GCSE A-Level English Language and Literature. I tutor adults, lecture in Universities and I mark GCSE exam papers.

My success rate is excellent, if my students do their homework and work hard they will obtain good grades. Many of my students have gone onto A levels and University. I have several online students in Europe and Asia who are aiming to go to University in England or the US. We use Skype for each session, we email and use WhatsApp to set schedules and view homework. I also gave an office in Liverpool One city centre. Happy to talk through your needs.

About the lesson

My older students are often exam focused so my priority is to teach them how to pass the exam hopefully in an interesting way that gives them some joy from studying English. I try to convey my enthusiasm for a beautiful subject that has given me the tools to tell stories and see the world from different perspectives. If you can use words you can conquer the world. With students who want to improve pronunciation and understanding or appreciate literature I begin from what they want to get out of the sessions. I only teach one to one because I think students get better value having me to themselves. I sometimes teach in person but online is more convenient. Students will need access to Zoom or Skype, a decent wifi connection and a computer with a decent microphone and speakers. Learning should be fun not a chore.
