About Joseph
I have been a certified technology teacher at a public Middle school in Petersburg, VA. and was technology coordinator & teacher at several Chesterbrook Academy private schools in Northern Virginia. I have also worked young adults as an IT trainer & tech support at Job Corps.
I am not a prof (yet), but I decided to go back and work on qualifications to teach college, since I had one great year of teaching introduction to Anthropology in graduate school.
I have a degree in History (minor in physics), and a Masters in I.T. from Strayer University.
I am preparing to defend a dissertation next quarter to finish a doctorate in information technology at Capella University.
I am also almost done with an IBM data science certification.
I have been a tutor for the last few years and have expanded my range of subjects to include most mathematics, chemistry & physics & history.
Because I wasn't always a whiz at math & science, I am able to empathize and gain insights on how to help with problems students have with all of the STEM subjects by understanding how I overcame my own problems with learning technical & mathematical subjects.
I find it thrilling to see students make mental breakthroughs in these difficult subjects and I really enjoy facilitating this.

I believe in collaborating with students to create customized, interactive, activities & games that also have pain-free assessments and revision of lessons by examining the data.
--Typically I start off with a problem or two to find out how a student works through problems to identify things that can be fixed quickly.
--Then I ask about the homework and tests preparation they need to go over.
--In later lessons, I research techniques to teach the problems that we agree the student has.
--Finally I create interactive lessons using the various IT tools I am familiar with as well as the ones I have been developing . --These are used to reinforce key points, make mental maps, memorize key techniques and information needed. They can also be used to mimic formal assessments.
I have tutored and taught Adult Trainees, College, High School, Middle School and Elementary School age students (over 1650 of them over the years). As a trained IT professional I can tutor most C.S. or technology related subject, but I also have experience in tutoring High School Physics, Chemistry, Trigonometry, Algebra, Statistics, Analysis, Business, and History. I am also familiar with Elementary & Middle school math, reading, science and social studies.
