About Allyson
I bring more than eight years of experience teaching English in international and bilingual school settings, working primarily with preschool and elementary-age learners. During my career, I progressed into a Grade Leader role and also became a certified trainer responsible for supporting and onboarding other educators.
I hold multiple TEFL/TESOL certifications, including a 120-hour TEFL-C certificate from Columbia University and a 150-hour TEFL/TESOL certification from Maximo Nivel with a teaching practicum. I also hold a bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
My background includes teaching reading, writing, phonics, grammar, vocabulary, speaking, and listening, as well as developing curriculum, assessments, workbooks, and enrichment materials. I take a patient and professional approach to tutoring and want students to feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and building their confidence step by step.

I focus on making English feel clear, practical, and encouraging. My lessons are structured around the student’s current level, goals, and learning style, and I use a mix of modeling, guided practice, conversation, visuals, repetition, and independent practice. I especially enjoy helping young learners build confidence in reading, phonics, vocabulary, grammar, writing, speaking, and listening.
A typical lesson might begin with a short review or warm-up, followed by a focused skill or language target. I then guide the student through examples and practice before giving them a chance to use the skill more independently. I include plenty of interaction and feedback so students actively use English rather than listen to explanations.
What sets me apart is my 8+ years of experience teaching in international and bilingual schools, along with my background in curriculum design, assessment, and teacher training. I understand how to break learning into manageable steps and adjust when a student needs more support or a different explanation. My lessons are especially well suited to elementary-age learners, multilingual students, and children who need extra support or confidence in English.
