About Julie
Hi, I'm Julie — a TEFL-certified English teacher and UCLA philosophy graduate with a genuine passion for language, connection, and helping people grow.
I've worked with learners of all ages and backgrounds — from university students and young children to adult professionals — across the US, Europe, Asia, and beyond. Teaching has taken many forms in my life: tutoring logic at UCLA, leading seminars as an expedition guide, directing a summer camp, and teaching creative dance across three continents. What ties all of it together is a love of breaking things down clearly, meeting people where they are, and making the learning process feel good.
I hold a 120-hour internationally recognized TEFL certification and a B.A. in Philosophy from UCLA (Magna Cum Laude), which gave me a strong foundation in clear thinking, precise communication, and the kind of patient, structured explanation that makes complex things feel simple.
I'm a native American English speaker who has spent years living and traveling abroad, so I understand both sides of the language learning experience. I know how much courage it takes to practice in a second language, and I create a warm, judgment-free space where my students feel confident to try, make mistakes, and keep going.
If you're looking for a teacher who is qualified, caring, and genuinely invested in your progress — I'd love to work with you.

My lessons are all about you — your goals, your pace, and the way you learn best. Whether you're just starting out, brushing up for work, or preparing for something specific like a job interview or a move abroad, we'll build every session around what actually matters to you.
A typical lesson feels like a real conversation, not a classroom. We might work through grammar or vocabulary in a way that feels relevant to your life, role-play a scenario you're actually going to face, or just talk — with gentle, encouraging feedback woven in naturally.
I come to teaching with a philosophy degree from UCLA, a TEFL certification, and years of experience working with people across all ages and backgrounds — as a tutor, a guide, a dance teacher, and a traveler who has lived and worked across Europe, Asia, and the Americas. I know firsthand how vulnerable it can feel to communicate in another language, and I genuinely love being the person who helps make that feel less scary and more exciting.
My lessons are open to all ages and levels — from kids to professionals — and I especially enjoy conversational English, business English, travel English, and academic writing. If you're not sure where to start, that's completely fine — we'll figure it out together.

I've had the chance to observe Julie teach outdoor education, and can see how the same qualities would translate to English teaching. She has a talent for breaking down complex concepts in a way that's clear and easy to follow, and the patience to help students who may be slower to learn. Her ability to adapt her teaching style to different environments is a strength of hers. Any student would be lucky to have Julie as a teacher!
Julie is my cousin and I highly recommend her! She is naturally outgoing, approachable, and very easy to talk to, which helps people feel comfortable and confident when communicating. One of her strengths is her ability to connect with a wide range of people and create a relaxed, supportive environment. She is patient, encouraging, and brings a positive energy to her interactions. These qualities make her well suited to helping others practice and improve while feeling at ease. I believe students would find her both engaging and supportive as they work toward their goals.
