Duration : 6 one-hour class sessions over 6 weeks - Price : $120.00 - Place : Atlanta (30350)For high school, college, and graduate students at all writing levels, I teach you the tools and strategies to blast through writer's block, write in your natural voice, and conquer the project or essay you've been putting off.
I get to know each student briefly, including a writing sample from your most recent paper. I also learn about your individual challenges and strengths, and help the group to agree on 3 shared objectives.
I lead class discussion in an open, round-table format that allows for everyone's unique perspective to shine. Between class sessions, the *brief* reading and writing assignments will help you digest and practice the skills we uncover in class.
Each class session will cover one of the following 6 big-picture topics:
1. Outlining, Brainstorming, or Mindmapping? Techniques to Shatter Writer's Block
2. When the Rubric reads like a Rubix Cube: What your grader is REALLY looking for
3. Intros, Conclusions, and Avoiding Confusion: Keeping your Reader's Attention
4. The Lego Brick Sorting Device: How to Proofread like a Good Teacher
5. Style, Flow, and the Doctrine of Show: Perfecting the Art of Imperfection
6. SAT, ACT, and timed AP Essays: How to write ASTONISHINGLY well under pressure
If you're interested but unsure if this class is for you, reach out and meet me! I'll be happy to answer any questions you want to ask.
Course setup
I've been teaching private writing lessons for over 5 years, and I've coached over a hundred students to improve their grades, increase their confidence, and discover their own creative styles. I've helped many high school juniors and seniors prepare for all sections of the ACT and SAT, including the dreaded essay section, and I've even guided them through writing their college application essays. Many of my students have written to thank me that my instruction helped get them into their top-choice colleges, and I'm delighted that I get to help them succeed.
Over the years, I've taught all ages, from middle school to college level writers, and all levels of English language ability, from native speakers to first-year learners. I've also coached fiction writers, songwriters, poets, and essayists -- because I'm all of the above!
If you're interested in growing any area of your writing ability, I'd love to help you learn. This class is a great primer, but you may also benefit from private tutoring. Contact me for a free consultation if that's your goal!
