About Jaewon
I’m a 2-time Emmy award-winning professional journalist based in Houston, where I cover everything from breaking news to in-depth investigative stories. My work requires me to write clearly, quickly, and accurately every single day.
I specialize in helping students become stronger, more confident writers by teaching them how to think like a reporter and an editor. That means going beyond grammar and focusing on structure, clarity, and impact; whether it’s a school essay, a research paper, or a college application.
I’ve worked extensively with public records and investigative reporting, so I also help students develop critical thinking and research skills that set their work apart. My goal is not just to improve one assignment, but to give students tools they can use in every writing situation.

My teaching style is all about having fun while also learning.
A typical session is structured but flexible:
Goal setting (5–10 min)
Identify what the student wants to improve (grammar, structure, storytelling, etc.)
Review + feedback (15–25 min)
Go through their writing or assignment with detailed, actionable feedback
Live editing + skill building (20–30 min)
Rewrite sections together while teaching techniques (strong leads, transitions, clarity)
Takeaways + next steps (5–10 min)
Provide specific notes and strategies they can apply immediately
Students leave each session with a stronger piece of writing AND skills they can reuse.
What sets me apart as a tutor is my professional experience.
I work as a news reporter, so I teach real-world writing, not just theory. I specialized in high-impact writing — headlines, storytelling, and clarity that grab attention. I am also an expert in research and public records. I can teach investigative techniques most tutors can’t.
