About Grayson
Hi! My name is Grayson, and I'm here to help.
I’ve lived a few different lives, which I think brings a layered sense of understanding to both students and writing. When I was 15 years old, I began attending University part-time. I was awarded multiple national, state, and local merit scholarships that were predominantly essay-based.
After graduating from the University of Virginia in 2019 with a BA in Sociology and Bioethics, I was appointed as the youngest Head Coach in North America for fencing (en garde!). That experience made me realise how much I love teaching, though fencing remained a personal passion more than a professional one.
I later served as a Crisis Counsellor supporting people in acute mental distress, which strengthened my ability to communicate clearly under pressure and offer calm guidance. The counsellor role was remote, and I travelled widely; I have been to 22 countries and 47 US states.
I now live in London after completing a joint MSc in International Health Policy & Financing from the London School of Economics and the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. I currently work in business development for a healthcare start-up, which I love.
I wanted to return to teaching because I miss working one-on-one with people to help them find confidence, structure, and clarity in their work. I know what it’s like to feel overwhelmed by essays, dissertations, or CVs... when words start to blur together! I’ve worked with many neurodivergent students and have ADHD myself, so I’m well-versed in adapting to different learning styles. Overall, I just love working with people and hope I can be the mentor you need to conquer whatever task is at hand.

*Techniques and Teaching Methodology*
I am both approachable and kind while remaining honest and firm. Because I view assignments as an extension of the student, my teaching technique varies; the first lesson is complimentary to understand the task at hand, who you are, and how we would work best together. After establishing our plan and goals, I tailor our approach to your learning style and personality to ensure the best possible results. I derive genuine joy from helping others succeed, so rest assured that each tutoring session is met with diligence and enthusiasm. Please read below for more about my background, and book an introductory session today!
*Qualifications and Experience*
With over a decade of experience, I have taught more than 1,000 students. I began tutoring at the age of 16, while still in college, when I was hired as a Teaching Assistant for a local university’s Introduction to Sociology course. Writing has always been my strength and has earned me multiple national essay-based scholarships. My undergraduate background is in sociology, political science, and ethics. My postgraduate background is in health sciences, economics, and finance. My professional background is in teaching, coaching, and mental health. Originally from the United States, I’m comfortable navigating both UK and US cultural norms and writing styles with ease.
*Who the Lessons Are For*
I work with students of all ages; my youngest was six, and my eldest was in their sixties. Whether it’s an academic essay, dissertation, scholarship application, or cover letter/CV, I meet you where you are and help you get where you want to be. No matter the age, stage, or subject, I’m genuinely committed to helping each student grow and succeed.
*Typical Length of a Lesson*
Lessons are 20 minutes to one hour, depending on the student’s needs and attention span. The first lesson is always complimentary, so we can establish your goals and working style.
