About Mina

With a Social Services Diploma and a background in Social Work from TMU, I offer tutoring for students across K-12 and post-secondary.

I am experienced in supporting neurodiverse students—those with learning disabilities (verbal, non-verbal, dyscalculia), physical disabilities, and ADHD. This includes executive function support, working memory strategies, and accommodations for processing speed differences.

About the lesson

My Approach

My sessions are individualized and structured. I use evidence-based techniques like task chunking (breaking large assignments into manageable steps), scaffolding, explicit instruction, and metacognitive skill building to help students overcome task avoidance.

I can recognize when a student is becoming overwhelmed and help them implement calming strategies to get back on track.

I can support students in using their existing assistive technology effectively during our tutoring sessions. I can also recommend or train them in assistive technology that may be useful and allow them to succeed and work more independently.

Grades 9-12: English, History, Geography, Civics, Law, Family Studies, Science (to Grade 10)
Post-Secondary: Research skills, essay and report writing, and study skills coaching for Social Services and Humanities programs

Accommodations & Assistive Technology
I specialize in adapting the learning environment to the student. If you currently use (or think you would benefit from) specific accommodations, I am fully trained to support them. I am highly familiar with:

* Assistive Tech: Text-to-speech, speech-to-text, and predictive text software.
* Learning Aids: Verbatim scribing, mind-mapping, graphic organizers, and memory aids.
* IEP Implementation: If you have an Individualized Education Plan (IEP), I can help ensure those accommodations are being effectively utilized in your daily study routine.

Typical Lesson Structure
1. Every session is tailored to the student, but a typical hour follows this structure:
2. The Check-In: A brief energy check to set the tone and identify any stress points.
3. The Plan: We review upcoming deadlines and organize the workload together.
Core Learning: We tackle the subject matter using interactive methods tailored to the student's strengths.
Review: We summarize what was learned and set next actions—clear, manageable goals so the student knows what to do in between sessions or for our next session.
