It takes more than just personally being smart and good at a subject to be able to teach it. When it comes down to it, what will make me a great tutor for you is that I care about working with you to help you improve and learn in a way that makes sense and works for you. So contact me and let's get started!
Education and working with kids have always been cornerstones of my life. I graduated from Harvard College for undergrad with a degree in psychology, with a focus on developmental psychology; so even in my academic pursuits, I have worked with children. I then got my Master's Degree at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, and have moved into educational television.
I graduated from a rigorous International Baccalaureate program in high school, and I also got a perfect score on the ACT. I have also been tutoring since high school - I have tutored across most subjects and all age groups: English, math, science, ESL, Spanish, test prep, college admission essays...I also taught a Korean language class for young adopted children and their parents, designing the curriculum myself.
I studied math up through calculus and differential equations and the like in college, and also took IB Math at the Higher Level in high school and got a perfect score on the Math section of the SAT. In high school, I studied Chemistry, Physics, and Biology at the higher level, and also continued the study of the sciences in college. In fact, the track within my Psychology degree was the Social and Cognitive Neuroscience track, so I approached Psychology from a scientific standpoint as well. I have always loved reading and writing, so much so that I also write in my spare time and have won contests with my writing. Creative writing and informative writing both have their unique challenges that students can have trouble with, and I love to help critically assess and edit writing so that students can produce their best work. Analytical reading and academic processing of literature is also a skill that I enjoy helping students to improve on. I received a perfect score on the Critical Reading section in the SAT, so I also know strategies to excel on such tests.
But more importantly than my own achievements, I understand that in teaching and tutoring, it's about breaking it down and laying the foundation of the basics for deeper comprehension. When I tutor, I frame the tutoring in the way that makes it most interesting and most digestible for the students individually. Excelling has as much to do with study habits and attitude as aptitude, and I am committed to helping my students achieve success all around!
