About Lucas
I’m a graduating high school senior heading to UC Irvine this fall. I’ve always had a lean toward English and writing, but my real background is in sports and martial arts.
For the last four years, I’ve been lucky enough to play volleyball at a national level, where my team won a State Championship. I also spent years training in Kung Fu, eventually earning gold medals in competition. While those were great experiences, the biggest thing I took away from them wasn't the trophies—it was the discipline and the patience it takes to get good at something difficult.
Why I’m Tutoring:
I’m a big believer that anyone can get good at English if they have the right coach. I’m not here to show off; I’m here to use the work ethic I learned in sports to help elementary and middle schoolers find their footing. I know what it’s like to have to balance a crazy schedule and work through topics that don't click right away.
What I Bring to the Table:
A Supportive Environment: I’m not a scary authority figure. I’m just a student who’s been through the same classes recently and knows how to make the material less intimidating.
Focus on Basics: Whether it’s grammar or reading, I focus on building a strong foundation so students feel confident enough to handle the harder stuff later on.
Real Reliability: Between national travel for volleyball and years of martial arts, I’ve learned that showing up and being consistent is half the battle. I bring that same reliability to every session with my students.
I’m looking forward to helping some younger students get a head start on their English skills before I head off to UCI!

Who the lessons are for:
My lessons are specifically designed for Elementary (K-5) and Middle School (6-8) students. I specialize in helping younger learners build a rock-solid foundation in English.
My Teaching Method & Techniques:
I use a "Student-Led" approach. Instead of just lecturing, I ask questions that lead the student to find the answer themselves.
The "Why" Method: We don't just memorize grammar rules; we learn why they exist so they actually stick.
Real-World Application: We use texts the student actually enjoys—whether it’s a school book or a favorite hobby—to practice reading and analysis.
Positive Reinforcement: Building confidence is 90% of the battle with younger students. I focus on what they are doing right to make the learning process less intimidating.
A Typical Lesson Plan (60 Minutes):
0-10 mins: Check-in and Review. We look at the previous lesson’s concepts or any school homework they are currently tackling.
10-30 mins: Deep Dive. We focus on a specific skill (e.g., mastering comma usage, identifying a story’s theme, or expanding vocabulary).
30-50 mins: Active Practice. The student applies the skill through a writing exercise or a reading aloud session where I provide real-time proofreading and feedback.
50-60 mins: Summary & "The Takeaway." We recap what we learned and set a small goal for the next session.
Ultimately, my goal is to be the person I wish I had helping me when I was in middle school.

I’ve known Lucas for several years through our local community, and he is an exceptional tutor who brings a patient, conversational energy to every session. What I appreciate most is his ability to break down complex grammar and writing structures into clear, manageable steps that actually stick. We recently collaborated on a writing project, and his knack for providing sharp, actionable feedback while keeping the atmosphere encouraging was truly impressive. If you’re looking for a tutor who is approachable, insightful, and genuinely invested in your progress, I can’t recommend Lucas highly enough!
