About Nelson
I’m currently an undergraduate student at the University of Florida (Class of ‘24). I have my sights on law school but my strong suits are forming argument and using rhetorical devices. Hence, I made my major English, and have focused on rhetorical and creative writing in my time at college. (Good skills for a lawyer, if you ask me!)
I also have a minor in Communication Studies, which supplements my English major. I focused on public speaking and interpersonal communication, which are the methods through which people can send their message through words.
I fell in love with writing thanks to my high school AP English Language teacher, who taught me that an essay or a speech is never just an essay or a speech. Words are fickle things but they are powerful when put to use.
I’m a fast writer and 1000 word, 2000 word, etc. are a breeze. I have experience in creative writing (especially poetry), professional writing (writing in a career setting), and rhetorical writing (writing to making a point).

My speciality is writing. I have experience with rhetoric and essay writing. I’ve even had poems published in undergrad journals before. I can help with comprehension, writing, planning, and editing.
Comprehension:
Help students decipher intimidating texts, whether that be nonfiction or literature, which is the first step to writing response essays, short or long.
I tend to focus on tone and theme in works. I.E. how to read between the lines and tricks for students to grasp these texts more intimately.
Writing:
I’ve had plenty of “writer’s block” in my time. I tend to help students figure out what they’re thinking in their head and how to translate that into words on a page.
I tend to focus on helping students tackle prompts, how to form cohesive arguments, and how to bring out their voice in writing in a way that is professional but authentic.
Planning:
In my opinion, planning is the most boring part of writing, but it’s also the most crucial part. No house can stand without a firm foundation. Likewise, no great essay can be without a solid plan in mind.
I can help students overcome planning, in ways that help reduce the anxiety of writing and give them a strong base for which to approach their essays.
Editing:
My personal favorite part of writing. Now that your draft is done, there are an infinite amount of ways to make it better.
Here’s where I focus on tone, diction, and voice. Subtle changes in an essay can go a long way, and it seems like no essay is perfect, but some come very close to it.
