About Mya

I'm Mya, a first-year Law with Politics student at university! Both have been an interest of mine since a young age, with a passion for changing the world and creating a fairer society for all. Whilst my exam experience during A-Levels was different, I put in a lot of hard work to ensure my content and exam techniques were perfected. Revising and applying for university felt difficult so I developed a passion for helping others to achieve their best whilst feeling their best. My passion is to help students of all abilities achieve their aspirations and goals. I tutored those who took their GCSEs this year to help them achieve and feel confident in their own academic abilities. In my spare time, I do ballroom and Latin dance which helps me have a well-deserved break from the textbooks. I structure my lessons with a mixture of content learning and exam practice to ensure that students have the chance to ask questions and excel in exam skills. Students who come to me will grow in confidence and achieve the grades they feel they deserve and work for - everyone has a safe space with me. I find simple works best for most, so I try to use common techniques to help engage and encourage active learning. This encourages them to want to return feeling motivated and excited for learning, especially during exam season. I use these methods with my students to remind them that learning and exams don't have to be stressful because they are confident in themselves.

About the lesson

My methods for teaching follow a relatively simple structure, that being based on learning content, and then applying this to exam questions. Exam questions are one of the most effective ways to reach top grades in any exam and consistent practice of this ensures that there is an opportunity to grow for pupils of all academic abilities. I believe that confidence is the most important skill for young people to attain and therefore instilling this in them will pave a way for their success. The typical length of a lesson is 1 hour, this is to keep the student engaged and happy to keep learning, ultimately keeping them excited for more. I have worked with young people before on NCS and in Girlguiding so have the correct measures to work with students as well as tutoring some of the 2020 and 2021 cohorts for GCSE's. My lessons suit those taking GCSE's or A-Levels.
