About Paul

In 2002 Edwin Mellen University published my book, "The First English Edition of Bruno Bauer's 1843 'Christianity Exposed'"

Bauer was a prized student of GWF Hegel and collated Hegel's Lectures on the Philosophy of Religion (1818-1831). Bauer was one of the early advocates the Marcan Hypothesis. Albert Schweitzer compared Bauer favorably over David Strauss.

I have an MA from Cal State (1989) and in the 21st century I studied the New Testament at UT Austin independently with L. Michael White.

A Deeper Understanding of the Bible: History, Archaeology, Religion & Theology

Modern biblical studies draw on world history, comparative religion, archaeology, and the critical study of ancient texts to deepen our understanding of Scripture. These approaches help make the religious experiences and historical contexts reflected in the Bible more accessible to today's readers.

My approach also recognizes that theology raises questions that extend beyond historical evidence alone. By reading the Prophets and Apostles thoughtfully and generously, we can explore not only the historical development of biblical traditions but also their theological significance and enduring meaning.

As an active member of Bart Ehrman's Biblical Studies Academy, I have a particular interest in biblical scholarship and the historical study of early Christianity.

In our lessons, we can explore the relationship between the Hebrew Scriptures and the New Testament, the Documentary Hypothesis, Marcan Priority, and other questions in biblical scholarship. My goal is to make complex ideas understandable while encouraging careful reading, thoughtful questions, and a deeper appreciation of the biblical texts.
