About Joe

Hey! I'm Joe, an English graduate from the University of Cambridge. I achieved 3 A*s at A Level, at 7 A*s at GCSE.

I have spent over two years tutoring with four different companies, completing over 300 hundred lessons and receiving fifty, five star reviews (such as ‘He is a kind and enthusiastic tutor, and any person in need of academic assistance would benefit greatly’). I work privately and as part of the National Tutoring Scheme funded by the government. The latter gave me insight into many different schools and backgrounds, in which I ran both 1-1 and 1-3 sessions. My lessons are always carefully prepared yet dynamic to accommodate a wide range of learning styles and backgrounds. This experience led me to be promoted to run specialised seminars for up to 6 students in 2022. To do so, I wrote the curriculum for a week-long course, which successfully fit the lesson specification given. Recently, I have begun working on my own tutoring business ‘BrayStarTutors’ in which, I am focusing on lesson planning and revision resources. A comment from a student in our first lesson has stuck with me: ‘you made me feel intelligent’. Education should be about unlocking potential and showing young people their abilities.

About the lesson

Hi, I’m Joe. I have an English BA at the University of Cambridge, and I am studying a PGCE at the University of Oxford. I have 50 5* reviews from three different companies, and 3 years tutoring experience.

I am committed to helping my students achieve. I believe everyone has unlimited potential and will go above and beyond to help you reach (if not exceed!!) your targets. I believe all questions are valid, and will actively promote a positive learning environment. Usually, we generate laughter, fun, and inspiration in our sessions together. A flexible tutor, I tailor my lessons specifically, including advice from a previous, triple-A* student's perspective.

I am also always happy to help with essays or answer questions on messages throughout the week. I also mark essays to generate feedback in line with the marking criteria.

Joe's guidance and mentoring throughout the final year studying for my English GCSEs proved to be so useful, helping me improve my grade more than I could have ever hoped. In my first lessons with him I was underconfident and used to avoid getting stuck into a question, but Joe taught me to trust myself and learn how to play to my strengths.
