About Clodagh
As a History of Art graduate, from the University of Cambridge, my strengths lie in teaching reading and writing skills and English Literature. This can be for children or teenagers any age, up to GCSE level. If anybody requires it, I would love to tutor History of Art!
I have just spent a year in Paris, where I taught young children English language. Through this experience I have developed an ability to judge the effectiveness of different techniques with different types of learners.

I am 25 years old, friendly and enthusiastic, and want first and foremost all students to feel comfortable and confident in my lessons.
I firmly believe that each child deserves a personal approach to their education. This means I strive to create a flexible education style that suits the individual, rather than impose upon them a rigid system. For example, if a younger child needs help advancing their reading, I want to find reading content that excites them and relates to their interests. I believe that to help children and teenagers reach their potential, they must be treated with respect, and always encouraged.
I would begin a lesson with asking the student to give me a short summary of our last lesson. I find small reinforcements and recaps can help establish ideas more firmly in the mind. I would use this summary to ensure they fully grasped the content covered in the last lesson.
I would always tutor with a physical dictionary and thesaurus to hand. This would be built into the lessons from the very start, as a tool for expanding vocabulary. If the student chances upon a new word, I would ask them to turn to the dictionary and we could discuss it’s meaning. This is a practice I would encourage them to continue when alone, to incite linguistic curiosity and wider vocabulary.
I would also encourage students to exploit the many multimedia educational tools available online. Since leaving University, I have developed methods of self-education, to expand my understanding of Humanities subjects before undertaking post-graduate courses. I have discovered invaluable online sources such as Khan Academy, educational podcasts and Open University free short courses. While I would not utilise these during the teaching time, I would prepare handouts that guide them to engaging and relevant online educational sources.
